Dusk 'Till Dawn 12hr Pairs

Coming just one week after my fantastic ride at the MaXx Exposure, I was brimming with confidence at the start of Dusk Till Dawn. My partner for the day, or rather for the 12hrs of nigth through which we would race, was my regular, reliable and exceedingly fast friend, Gavin Baxter, my regular riding buddy from my days living in New Mills and riding in the Peak District National Park several times a week.

MaXx Exposure 80mile Solo

This was the race that gave me the confidence to go out and hang it all out on the race course.

It all started by mistake, in a testosterone fuelled bit of start like banter: Standing with a couple of the fast guys from my Thursday night work ride, Rich Penning aka "fast Rich" asked what my tactics were. Without hesitating, I answered "set off at the front and see how long I can hold on". So that's what happened!

The Long Good Saturday 8hr Solo

I never meant to go solo Endurance MTB racing, but when racing came to my home town of Brighton in 2008, in the form of the Long Good Saturday, an 8hr race in some of my favourite trails Stanmer Park, that I ride most weeks, I had to go and race.

Sowing the Seeds

The Infamous Jacob's Ladder
I've always enjoyed epic day rides; one of my first ever "proper" mountain bike rides involved being taken to Hope Valley by some way more experienced, fit and skilled friends, immediately riding up Jacob's Ladder and proceeding to ride all day in scorchingly hot weather, getting very lost, attempting to ride down Cave Dale and generally making the day somewhat epic. I've been hopelessly hooked ever since.
